One of the all time great USA tries was scored in 1999 by Tini Saulala in a test match in San Francisco, California against Tonga. From inside their own 22 the USA spread the ball wide to put winger Vaea Anitoni into space to make a break down the right flank before Dan Lyle's subsequent involvement resulted in defenders being sucked in and the back-rower was able to off-load to Tini Saulala who went over under the posts. The USA won the fixture 30-10. It was a part of the former Epsom Cup which was the commercial name for the then Pacific Rim Rugby Championship. The competition no longer exists with the Pacific Nations Cup being a contemporary version.
