International Rugby: Uruguay v Fiji Team Lists

The team lists for Saturday's international fixture in Montevideo have been announced. Uruguay is to play host to Fiji in what is a preview of their Rugby World Cup match on October 06 at Milton Keynes. As the fixture is not taking place during a World Rugby international player release window neither team has full access to all players. Consequently 80% Fiji's team is to be made up of local players. As such caps are not on offer for the visitors who are to play under the name Fijian Warriors, which is the country's A team. The URU is, however, to cap the Teros players despite World Rankings not being on the line. The match is to be the first of two and the winner of the series will be awarded the Copa Scotiabank.

Fiji's historical tour of Uruguay is a serious matter. With the teams grouped together in Pool A of Rugby World Cup 2015 their matches this month offer unique insight into the broader squad members that both countries will be selecting from for their World Cup squads.

Head coached Pablo Lemoine and Senirusi Seruvakula have confirmed their teams with Uruguay making six changes from the team that competed well against Argentina in losing 36-14 this past Saturday. The changes see a new front-row in the form of Mateo Sanguinetti, Germán Kessler and Mario Sagario. Back-rowers Diego Magno and Fernanco Bascou as well as fullback Santiago Gilbernau are also to start.

The Fiji Warriors are to field a team consisting of players involved in the World Rugby Pacific Challenge. Contested in Fiji the home side finished second, losing 17-9 to the Pampas XV in the final. Missing are players based abroad, many of whom will be involved in professional rugby this weekend either in Super Rugby or European competitions.

In World Rankings Fiji is 12th and Uruguay 21st with the South Americans having recently dropped behind Spain by virtue of losing against Chile in Santiago. With Fiji not fielding a test side the match will see the ranking of neither side altered.

The match will be streamed live and can be seen by clicking here while the second match is to be played next Sunday, May 31 also in Montevideo. In between these dates Fiji will play against Argentina  at the Estadio Antonio Supicci in Colonia on Wednesday May 27.
