International Rugby: Argentina v Fiji Team Lists

Head coaches Daniel Hourcade and Senirusi Seruvakula have named their lineups for today's non-capped international match in Uruguay. An Argentine XV will face the Fiji Warriors in a fixture which is to see the leading domestic based players of the two countries receiving opportunities to push for senior squad selection in the Rugby World Cup. Both teams are backing-up from matches on Saturday with the Fijians having played against Uruguay in Montevideo while Argentina faced Paraguay in Asunción.

Fresh off a 30-22 win over Uruguay Fiji will be looking to collect back-to-back wins in South America later on today when the country's 'A' side, the Fiji Warriors, faces the leading domestic based Argentine players in a non-capped international in Colonia, Uruguay. The tour is a vital part of Fiji's preparation for the World Cup and gives all three countries the opportunity to advance planning ahead of the show-piece tournament in England and Wales this coming September.

This past weekend Fijian head coach John McKee named a training squad for the Pacific Nations Cup and Rugby World Cup. Included were a number of players currently in South America. The majority, however, are to come from players based outside of Fiji. Argentina is in a similar, but changing, position as players continue to leave European contracts to sign for the Argentine Super Rugby franchise.

The starting line-up features a mixture of future Super Rugby players and others on the fringe. Santiago Cordero, for instance, is yet to join the franchise but is very much in the frame to do so. He is to play fullback v Fiji after having been left wing, and crossing for a hat-trick, v Paraguay. With Fiji being renowned for flair outside the Argentine back-three is of note as no player is on contract with the UAR.

The mid-field, in contrast, is to feature Gabriel Ascárate and Jerónimo De la Fuente, two players with experience under Hourcade who could, potentially, be up-against one-another for places in the World Cup squad. They will play outside Martín Landajo and Santiago González Iglesias in the halves, two players already certain to be involved in the World Cup.

In 2014 Lucas Noguera Paz and Bruno Postiglioni were both utilized as back-up to Marcos Ayerza at loosehead prop. They are to start together against the Fijians in a front-row combination with Santiago Iglesias Valdez. Guido Petti Pagadizabal and Gerónimo Albertario have been retained in the second-row from the test match in Asunción while the starting back-row is to also be unchanged with Tomás Lezana, Facundo Isa and Javier Ortega Desio all backing-up from Paraguay.

The match is scheduled for a 7pm kick-off local time.
