Super Rugby: Leading Fullback Signs for Argentine Franchise

Argentine international fulback Joaquín Tuculet will return to Argentina to be fully contracted by the UAR. Currently on contract with Welsh region the Cardiff Blues Tuculet has signed a two year deal with the Argentine Rugby Union that will see him available at all times to play for the new Argentine Super Rugby franchise in addition to international duty. The contract will span the duration of 2016 and 2017 and end at the completion of the 2018 season. The signature of Tuculet follows that of captain Agustín Creevy who returns from England to play for the Argentine Super Rugby franchise. Both players will join the squad after the World Cup this year and others based in Europe are expected to be signed over the coming weeks.

Argentina's first ever professional rugby team was given a boost on Tuesday evening as the country's leading fullback agreed to terms to sign a contract with the UAR from 2016-2018. The deal will see 25 year old Joaquín Tuculet returning from Europe. His current club, the Cardiff Blues had been reported to have held a strong interest in signing the Puma on a new contract beyond the World Cup.

He becomes the twenty-third player contracted to the UAR and the third outside back joining Manuel Montero and Ramiro Montoya. The low number is expected to be enhanced by the return of others currently based outside of Argentina who were a part of Hourcade's squad in the 2014 Rugby Championship.

Players from other positions are also to be contracted. Notable speculation has surrounded Nicolás Sánchez who is back in Argentina from Toulon while Racing Métro second-rower Tomás Lavanini has been suggested in the French press as leaving at the end of the current season to play Super Rugby. Reports claim that Manuel Carizza is to replace Lavanini at Racing Métro.

Capped 20 times by Argentina Tuculet is Argentina's first choice fullback. In 2014 headcoach Daniel Hourcade started him throughout the Rugby Championship handing him a total of thirteen caps in the year for a return of six tries. He had previously been a squad member but outside of the frame for Rugby Championship duty.
