With both Canada and Tonga closing their Rugby World Cup 2003 campaigns their match in Wollongong meant won would leave the tournament with a victory while the other would be eliminated winless. Ten minutes into the second half Canada held a two point lead but was yet to score a try. Ahead 9-7 Canada was camped deep inside Tonga's half and had an attacking scrum. From the base scrumhalf Morgan Williams passed to fly half Bobby Ross who completed a training-ground move by linking with Ryan Smith before fullback Quentin Fyffe fed Winston Stanley who came off the blind wing to put Sean Fauth in the clear. With space to spare the Canadian right winger dived over to put the North Americans in a comfortable position. Canada completed a memorable 24-7 victory.
