Uruguay's Rugby World Cup debut was a match against Spain in Galashiels in 1999. The Scottish city hosted the match despite the tournament officially being Wales 1999. Indeed Uruguay's matches were all played in Scotland. The match was treated by both Uruguay and Spain as the most important fixture of their campaigns and it was a tight-fought contest in which the South Americans came out on top after a decisive try from fullback Alfonso Cardoso. Late in the second half Uruguay was two points ahead before the fullback's try proved to be a game changer. Cardoso played in two Rugby World Cups, also scoring in the win over Georgia (as pictured to the right) in Sydney in 2003. Uruguay will face Australia, England, Fiji and Wales in Rugby World Cup 2015.
