Uncapped Argentine fly half Bautista Guemes has secured his professional playing future. Having recently arrived in Italy under contract by Benetton Treviso Guemes has now agreed to terms with Pro d2 side Agen to join the club next season. The contract will could see Guemes playing in the Top 14 depending on how the club performs for the remainder of the current season. Guemes is well respected in Argentina as a fly half. His club CUBA has won championships with him playing pivot.
Bautista Guemes joined Benetton Treviso to give the Guinness Pro 12 side more depth for the final stages of the season. The team is 11th out of 12 in the Pro 12 but remains ahead of Zebre. Should this remain then the team will secure it's place in the 2015-2016 European Rugby Champions Cup. Guemes is expected to debut for the team shortly once his papers have been cleared by Pro 12 rugby authorities.
His arrival in Europe was followed by reports that he was seeking to stay beyond May to play fulltime. It came after Guemes was not offered a Super Rugby contract by the UAR and was also left out of the Pampas XV squad for the World Rugby Pacific Challenge. A similar path is expected to be the case for other non-contracted Argentine based players.
Agen is very well placed to appear in the Semi Finals of the Pro d2 this season. The club sits in 4th position on 66 competition points. Leaders Pau have 83 and the team is expected to win direct promotion. Those placed 2nd to 5th are thus to dispute the Pro d2 Semi Finals and Final with the winner also securing promotion. At present Perpignan, Mont de Marsan and Aurillac are to be Agen's rivals.
