International Rugby: Uruguay team named to face Paraguay

Uruguayan international headcoach Pablo Lemoine has confirmed his team for Saturday's opening round match of the 2015 South American Championship. In the only match being played this weekend Rugby World Cup 2015 participants Uruguay will play host to Paraguay at the home of Uruguayan rugby the Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo. Lemoine has named a strong side for the match but a team, nonetheless, below full strength. Unavailable are those players contracted to European clubs.

Uruguay's road to the World Cup begins this weekend. For the first time since qualifying for Rugby World Cup 2015 last October Los Teros are to play an international match. The test is to be the first of seven capped matches between now and the end of May.

With Uruguay being in the Pool of Death with Australia, England, Fiji and Wales the South Americans are aiming to peak at the tournament. In order to aid the preparation of the players the union has enabled the domestic based players to train full time rather than work. In addition a fixture list is in place which will see matches getting increasingly complicated as the World Cup draws closer.

Saturday's home international against Los Yakares of Paraguay is the first step and a number of first choice players have been named by headcoach Pablo Lemoine in the team for the fixture. Set to start at tighthead prop is Oscár Durán and in the second-row will be Mathias Palomeque. Both are certainties for the World Cup as is back-rower Diego Magno, winger Jerónimo Etchverry and centre Alberto Román. Another is regular winger Santiago Gilbernau who will partner Román in the mid-field.

Paraguay's team is to be named later today. The match is to kick-off at 4pm local time on Saturday.
