The Semi Finals of the European Rugby Challenge Cup took place this weekend as teams from the Aviva Premiership and Guinness Pro 12 were involved in matches taking place in the U.K. Both home teams won which sees Edinburgh and Gloucester confirmed as finalists. They will meet at the Stoop in London on Friday May 01 a day before the European Rugby Champions Cup also taking place in the English capital. Involved are to be a number of players likely to play in Rugby World Cup 2015. Among them are not only English and Scottish players but also Argentine.
Edinburgh 45-16 Dragons
The first Semi Final was played at the home of Scottish rugby on Friday evening. The selection of Friday for the fixture was not pleasing to Newport Gwent Dragons' fans who consider Saturday to be much friendlier. With Edinburgh having struggled in the Guinness Pro 12 this season the match was one that team has been building towards while the Dragons were looking to continue an impressive unbeaten run in both the Challenge Cup and Pro 12. A five tries to one home victory for the Scottish capital side saw the home side cruise into the Final. Edinburgh's Argentine players were not involved.
Gloucester 30-19 Exeter
The out-of-form Gloucester hosted the in-form Exeter Chiefs in the second Semi Final. Played at Rugby World Cup 2015 venue Kingsholm on Saturday evening Gloucester treated the match like it was a true final. Exeter, in contrast, entered with one eye on the match and the other on the Aviva Premiership. The West Country side is closing in on a first-ever Semi Finals appears in the English national competition. Starting in the second-row for the winners was Mariano Galarza. The Puma had a strong showing which puts him in a good position for post-injury international recall for the World Cup.
