Paraguay's upcoming home international against Chile in Asunción is going to be special as it will mark the opening of the new national rugby stadium in the capital. Located in the Parque Olímpio in Ñu Guazú the Unión de Rugby Del Paraguay stadium will host Paraguay's second match of the 2015 South American Championship with Los Condores visiting on Sunday May 03. With the Paraguay test team, Los Yacares having hosted both Brazil and Uruguay in 2014 and playing Chile away the reverse fixtures mean that the match v Chile this year is Paraguay's only home fixture. In 2014 Paraguay completed a surprise 31-24 upset win against Brazil and ran Chile very close in Concepcion losing 22-18. As in 2014 Paraguay will open it's South American campaign against Uruguay facing the Rugby World Cup 2015 participants on the road in Montevideo this coming Saturday, April 11.
For Paraguay the dream of having rugby purpose facilities is now a reality. The Unión De Rugby Del Paraguay (URP) has proudly completed the construction of it's own stadium in Parque Olímpio, Asunción. The facilities will enable Paraguay to play host to a greater quantity of international fixtures while also providing national teams, both at the senior level and below, superior training installations.
Paraguay is one of four teams set to compete in the upcoming South American Championship A. Also involved are Brazil, Chile and Uruguay with the Four Nations competition involving three matches per team. Paraguay will face Uruguay this coming Saturday to open the tournament before hosting Chile on Sunday May 03 at the country's new national rugby stadium.
Paraguay will then face Brazil in Bento Gonçalves on Saturday May 09 in the final round of the tournament. The competition is to be followed by the 2015 CONSUR Cup which is to feature Argentina and the two top sides from the 2014 South American A Championship - Uruguay and Paraguay.
