Super Rugby: Gen Blue v Pampas XV Teams Announced

The opening tour match of the Pampas XV is fast approaching. Argentina's future Super Rugby franchise is to play a match against the 'A' side of the current Super Rugby champions, the Waratahs in Sydney on Friday. The Gen Blue side is composed of Waratahs squad members including established names such as Michael Alaalatoa, Peter Betham, Matt Carraro, Stephen Hoiles, Hugh Roach and Ben Volavola. Argentina's side features fourteen players contracted to the UAR and the Pampas XV is to be captained by scrumhalf Tomás Cubelli who led Los Pumas to victory over Italy in Genoa last November.

Starting in the front-row will be three players in contention for international duty in 2015. Argentina's third choice loosehead prop from 2014, Bruno Posiglioni, will join fourth choice hooker Julián Montoay and third choice tighthead prop Matías Díaz in the run-on XV. Díaz is unique in having played Super Rugby previously as he did so for New Zealand side the Highlanders in 2014.

Guido Petti and Matías Alemanno make-up the starting second-row and will be joined by a trio of players in the back-row that, like them, were utilized by Daniel Hourcade in 2014. Javier Ortega Desio, Tomás Lezana and Facundo Isa are to start together. The same three played the majority of Argentina's win over France in November following the first half injury loss of Leonardo Senatore. Missing for disciplinary reasons is Pablo Matera who has been suspended for two matches.

Set to lead the team from scrum-half is Tomás Cubelli and he will be joined by Santiago González Iglesias in the halves. Despite having been utilized by Hourcade in 2014 as a mid-fielder the natural position of González Iglesias is fly half. He will play inside Jerónimo De la Fuente and Matías Morono, two more players to have been a part of Hourcade's 2014.

The back-three sees Manuel Montero joined by Ramiro Moyano and Román Miralles. As such Santiago Cordero is to play off the bench. With the match being a non-official game there is room for more than the usual restriction of a total of 23 players. Moyano and Miralles are the only starting players not to have played for Hourcade's Pumas in 2014.

Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00am Argentine time.
