Promising young Argentine fly half Sebastían Poet has become the country's latest player to sign a professional contract to play in France. The 22 year old play-maker has signed a short-term contract to play for the club as a medical joker in what is to be his first opportunity of playing for a non-Argentine team. The three-time capped player has been identified as a Puma in the making and has a detailed history of representing his country both at the junior level and at the senior level in development teams. The opportunity of playing abroad will now aid his push to be considered for international duty in 2015.
Having missed out on a place in the Pampas XV squad for the upcoming World Rugby Pacific Rugby Challenge Sebastián Poet has been approached by a team in immediate need of a fly half. Poet is to join Tarbes from Atlético del Rosario and link up with former Pumas scrumhalf Nicolás Vergallo who is also from Rosario having come through the Jockey Club.
Poet made his international debut for Argentina in 2013. He was a member of the South American Championship winning side and earned caps against Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. While not playing thereafter for Argentina Poet was nonetheless in consideration and played for Los Jaguares in both 2013 and 2014. He also has extensive history as a Pumita having played in the Junior World Championship ad prior to that playing at under 19 level.
Currently placed 12th out of 16 Tarbes host Pro d2 leaders Pau this Sunday. A home win could see the club rise to 10th depending on the outcomes of other matches. With 40 points at present Tarbes is 12 points behind the 5th placed Biarritz. To have a chance of securing promotion the club must finish no lower than 5th.
