International Rugby: Pumita Alan Keesen to play for Germany

Former Argentine junior (Pumita) back-rower and captain Alan Kessen has been named in Germany's squad for this weekend's international match against Georgia. As illustrated to the right Kessen captained Argentina in the 2010 Junior World Championship. Had he done so for Wales or France he would not be able to play for Germany but as he has not played for either Los Jaguares or Los Pumas his eligibility remains open for him to be capped by a different country.  World Rugby's eligibility laws classify team's without an 'A' side as having their under 20 team, function in the same capacity.

Five years after representing and captaining his country at the junior level Alan Kessen is to play for another. The talented back-row has been named in Germany's team to face Georgia in an opening round fixture of the European Nations Cup (ENC) in Heusenstamm, Germany this coming Saturday.

Kessen is a player with a decorated history but was unable to advance through the system despite being spotted at a very early age and rising through the age-grade program. His Buenos Aires club, San Isidro Club (SIC), is one of the most recognizable with a history of producing international players.

Kessen played together with the Edinburgh pairing of Tomás Leonardí and Joaquín Domínguez while highly notable players to have represented Argentina including Diego Albeneze, Marcelo Loffreda, Gonzalo Longo and Rolando Martín all played for SIC. Also from the club is Guido Petti Pagadizábal who this past week signed to play Super Rugby for the Argentine franchise.
