Argentine international scrumhalf Tomás Cubelli will play for the Barbarians again in 2015. The Belgrano Athletic number nine is one of three players to have been named in the team set to play international invitational matches against Ireland and England this coming May. Also invited thus far have been former Wallaby Berrick Barnes utility back and the one time capped former All Black forward George Whitelock. The team is to be coached by former multiple-time Super Rugby winning coach Robbie Deans. The New Zealander also coached the Wallabies, taking the team to third in Rugby World Cup 2011.
Tomás Cubelli overtook Martín Landajo during the November 2014 European Tour to become the first choice Pumas scrumhalf. With Agustín Creevy injured Cubelli captained Los Pumas to victory over Italy in Genoa and he started in the win over France in Paris the following weekend. He now enters 2015 as appearing to be the favored player to be starting test matches for Argentina.
The Barbarians selection of Cubelli will see him returning to the famous club after having played for the team in both June and November 2014. The 34 time capped 25 year old was widely applauded prior to the November tour for his inventive chip-kick against Australia at Twickenham.
