The debut appearance of Rugby Sevens as an Olympic sport is fast approaching and to aid the preparation of the home nation it has been confirmed that Brazil will be a core team on the Sevens World Series Circuit. The 2015-2016 season is going to be revolutionary for Brazil and significantly assist in building towards the Olympic Games.

Confirmation was made at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro on the eve of the international Beach Rugby Challenge that Brazil will play in all the legs of the 2015-2016 World Sevens Circuit, thereby competing as a core team on equal terms with the likes of Argentina, the USA, South Africa, New Zealand and England.

The CEO of the Brazilian Rugby Confederation (CBRu) Agustín Danza made the announcement ahead of the end of year beach rugby event which is to take place at Ipanema Beach this Saturday, December 20. Similar activities are planned to help promote both rugby as a sport and the Olympic Games in the city.

Questions remain as to what Brazil's inclusion will mean for the current set-up which has fifteen core teams. The three legs that has taken place already this season (Australia, UAE and South Africa) are all sixteen team competitions.

  1. It's ridiculous, Brazil can't defeat Uruguay and can barely beat Chile.
