Uruguay's international program for 2015 has grown with confirmation that Los Teros are to fly to Europe for the World Cup via Asia and in doing so stop in Tokyo to play two tests against Japan. The matches will be played on August 22 and 29 and will be followed by a final pre-Rugby World Cup 2015 test against either Portugal or Belgium in Europe. Uruguay will debut in the World Cup against Wales on September 20 in Cardiff, the same day that two other Americas countries - Argentina and the USA will also open their campaigns.
Uruguay has confirmed that it will play two additional test matches ahead of the eagerly awaited return to the World Cup for the first time since 2003. The build-up to the World Cup which is currently being worked-upon by the URU already includes tests against Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and the USA as well as a match against the French Barbarians. There are also strong indications of Fiji facing Los Teros.
Uruguay had also been expected to face Tonga in Romania but have, instead, agreed to terms to play two tests against Japan in the Rugby World Cup 2019 host nation. The dates for these fixtures have been confirmed as August 22 and 29 and the URU is expected to announce them in addition to others before christmas. Also to be confirmed is Uruguay's involvement in the Tbilisi Cup which is to include Georgia, Emerging Ireland and Italy.
Uruguay is to play in Pool A of Rugby World Cup 2015, a tough assignment with all participants having notable records on the global stage. Australia and England are both previous champions while Wales was fourth in 2011 and Fiji was a Quarter Finalist in 2007. Of the four Fiji is the only team Uruguay is to play against before the World Cup.
