Nineteen of the twenty participants in Rugby World Cup 2015 are already well into their preparations for the tournament. The twelve autmoatic qualifiers who finished in the top three of their respective pools in 2011 have been joined by Canada, Fiji, Georgia, Japan, Namibia, Romania and the USA. Their qualification gave others a last chance to qualify through repecharge and today is to confirm who will be the Play-Off Winner and claim the final vacancy at the World Cup. Uruguay is to host Russia in Montevideo later today with the match kicking-off at 4:00pm local time or 6:00pm GMT.

The match is the second of two fixtures. The first was played two weeks ago in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk. Russia won the match 22-21 to take a one point advantage into this deciding fixture. A win or a draw for Russia will see the Europeans qualifying for a second Rugby World Cup while should Uruguay win by two or more points the South Americans will play in a third Rugby World Cup.

Uruguay played in Rugby World Cups 1999 and 2003 and did so by leaving a mark. In Uruguay's first ever match Los Teros were winners, defeating Spain 27-15 in Galashiels, Scotland. Four years later Uruguay again won a match, this time knocking-over Georgia 24-12 in Sydney. Russia, by way of contrast, has played at one Rugby World Cup and, despite playing some good rugby, is winless.

Constant changes to the Rugby World Qualification system in South America has seen Uruguay having a tougher path to qualification that countries from other regions, notably Africa. Uruguay has, consequently, ha to face North American, Asian and European opposition after winning the South American section of Rugby World Cup Qualification.

The qualification process for Rugby World Cup 2015 saw Uruguay winning in South America, and doing so undefeated, before facing Tier Two side the USA home and away. Uruguay competed to a draw in Montevideo but was overpowered in Atlanta with the USA producing an impressive second half performance to win 32-13.

Uruguay was subsequently Americas 3 and would host Asia 2 which saw Hong Kong playing a one-off match in Montevideo. Uruguay's 28-3 victory was comprehensive and set up a two-match series against Russia who had defeated African runner-up, Zimbabwe in Krasnoyarsk.

The city was selected to host both Zimbabwe and Uruguay based on its importance in Russian rugby. It is, however, not European which is of note considering Russia reached the Play-Off Final as Europe 3. Having played in North Asia the teams are now just hours away from the all-important final 80 minutes to see whether it wwill be Russia or Uruguay joining Australia, England, Fiji and Wales in Pool A of Rugby World Cup 2015.
