Argentine international Manuel Carizza played in club finals in Europe during his seven year stint at Biarritz and France but he is now a South African champion after he started for Western Province in the 19-16 win over the Lions on Saturday. Despite having been a regular under Santiago Phelan Carizza has been largely unused by Daniel Hourcade. He was selected for the June internationals but left out of the squad for the Rugby Championship and also the upcoming November internationals against Scotland, Italy and France. He now faces an uphill battle to prove himself as Hourcade has given preference to younger players such as Mariano Galarza, Tomás Lavanini, Matías Alemanno, Juan Cruz Guillemaín and Guido Petto.
