Argentina's under 20 side, Los Pumitas, finished the 2014 Junior World Championship in ninth position. The South Americans did so after finishing bottom of their pool with losses against Australia, England and Italy. The Patricio Fernández captained side recovered to defeat Fiji and Scotland to finish fourth from bottom. While Los Pumitas failed to achieve the same results from the two previous IRB Junior World Championships the Fernández nonetheless put his name down in history by becoming the highest points scorer in history. His role in the senior side appears set to begin with immediate effect as Fernández is likely to be Argentina's back-up fly half to Nicolás Sánchez in the Rugby Championship.
