Canada came within one penalty of defeating a Tier One rugby nation on Saturday. The North Americans proved to be stern opposition for Scotland who held on for a 19-17 victory in controversial circumstances. Canadian back-rower Jebb Sinclair was sent off for what the TMO determined to have been an illegal hit on Ruaridh Jackson. Replays appeared to show that, despite making contact, the London Irish forward could not have realistically have done any differently given how the Scottish back entered the tackle. Without Sinclair the flow of the match changed and Scotland won by two points. At the time the incident was not considered significant which led to Canada advancing into a match winning position with a penalty close to the Scottish 22. In general Canada's performance was impressive and the match should be watched in its entirety by supporters of France, Ireland, Italy and Romania - the teams set to face Canada in Rugby World Cup 2015.
