Rabo Direct Pro 12: Jeff Hassler named in Dream Team

Canadian international winger Jeff Hassler has been named in the Rabo Direct Pro 12 Dream Team for the 2013-2014 season. With seven league tries to his name the six time capped twenty-two year old is quickly establishing a strong name for himself ahead of Rugby World Cup 2015. Canada will be up against France, Ireland, Italy and Romania and looking for no fewer than two wins. No player from Italy's teams was selected in the Dream Team.

The team announced by the Rabo Direct Pro 12 on its official site is dominated by the Irish provinces and Welsh regions. Leinster has three players named in the team, all in the pack while Munster and Ulster both have two players each giving the Irish provinces seven of the fifteen spots in the team.

Of the seven six have gone to Irish players with former All Black Casey Lauala being the exception. Also included as an imported player is Canadian Jeff Hassler who has been named a the starting right winger in a back-three which also includes Andrew Trimble and Scarlets fullback Liam Williams.

The Scarlets have three players despite being a midtable side. In contrast the second placed Glasgow Warriors have only been allocated one place with centre Alex Dunbar being named. The overall selection of players underlines the shortcomings of the competition as with there being no relegation and, until now, no need to secure European qualification teams have fielded below full strength sides for many matches.
