The upcoming test match between Uruguay and Argentina is to be relocated. Ignacio Chans of RugbyNews has confirmed that the fixture will no longer be played in Salto. It is to be an official IRB sanctioned test match that is not part of the current South American Championship but rather a match for the CONSUR Cup which will also see Chile hosting Argentina.
Los Teros will now not face Argentina at the Estadio Dickinson de Salto but in the Estadio Artigas de Paysandú in the neighboring province. The alteration is all but confirmed but is yet to be made official by the URU. The change has been brought about following a meeting on Tuesday in which authorities seeked to resolve potential issues surrounding the field in Salto. Paysandú has agreed to cover the costs of the fixture and the hotel for the players.
The Estadio Artigas is notably larger than that off the Estadio Dickinson. The Paysandú venue seats 22,000 compared to 6,500 in Salto. The fixture will be broadcast on live television with negotiations currently being completed in order to allow for an official announcement of the change. There is a desire to have tio broadcast on free to air television. Similar to Salto Paysandú is located on the border with Argentina separated by the Rio Uruguay.
