The Pumas lineup for the first test match of the year has been named. Argentina is to play Uruguay on Saturday in the north western city of Paysandú in a new fixture of the South American Championship, the CONSUR Cup. Players based abroad have not been considered for the fixture and, as such, an entirely Argentine-based lineup will face Los Teros in the official test match.

The side coached by Daniel Hourcade features many in contention for a place in the team to take-on both Ireland and Scotland as well as some who will be selected for the Rugby Championship. It is, nonetheless, far from being a genuine Argentine test side. Indeed no players based abroad will feature in the match.

Starting at inside centre is Gabriel Ascárate who returned to Tucumán from Glasgow earlier this season. Also back from the U.K is Francisco Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro who has been named as a reserve front-rower. Starting in the front-row will be Lucas  Noguera Paz, Matías Cortese and Bruno Postiglioni, all of whom were important members of the Pampas XV in the IRB Pacific Cup.

The Australian based tournament unearthed provided may players with rare opportunities to shine and both Matías Alemanno and Lucas Ponce impressed. They are to start together in the second-row with last year's Rugby Championship reserve, Tomás Lavanini, providing cover on the bench. Javier Ortega Desio and Antonio Ahualli de Chazal join Rodrigo Báez in the back-row. All three have demonstrated their potential preiously and are playing for the right to face Ireland.

Last year's reserve scrum-half for the majority of the international season, Tomás Cubelli will start the test with Martín Landajo missing out. Covering Cubelli will be Felipe Ezcurra who has attracted attention following his performances for Los Pumitas.

Santiago González Iglesias has been named at fly half and will have no specialist providing cover for him on the bench. Ascárate will join Jerónimo De la Fuente in the mid-field while the back-three sees Santiago Cordero starting at the back and Tomás Carrió and Matías Orlando playing on the wings. Manuel Montero's involvement is therefore to be from the bench.
