Top 14: Martín Bustos Moyano secures last minute draw against Grenoble

For the second consecutive weekend Argentina´s Martin Bustos Moyano saved Bayonne from defeat in the Top 14. The Córdoba winger backed up his twenty-four point haul against Stade Français in Spain last weekend by scoring eleven points against Grenoble on Saturday. His goalkicking saved Bayonne from two defeats and has seen the Basque club continue to fight against the serious threat of relegation.

With just one more round of the Top 14 to play Bayonne´s survival is hanging by a thread. The club has fifty competition points, the same number as both Oyonnax and Perpignan. One of the three will be joining Biarritz Olympique in being relegated to France´s second division, the Pro d2.

Throughout his career in France Bustos Moyano has been joined by Puma Santiago Fernández. They played together for Montpellier from 2010-2013 and were both starters for the club in the 2011 Top 14 final when Montpellier lost 15-10 against Toulouse. The pair now face a different challenge as Bayonne needs to secure points against Castres in the final round match on Saturday May 3 to secure its survival.

Both Fernández and Bustos Moyano are likely to again start against Castres. Both have been playing well in recent weeks with Bustos Moyano´s boot proving decisive in the club not being behind both Oyonnax and Perpignan. Fernández set up former French under 20 winger Marvin O´Connor for a first half try in the draw against Grenoble.

Both players will be open to selection for international duty in June. Argentina will play host to Ireland and Scotland with the Irish playing tests in Resistencia and Tucumán and Scotland doing so in Córdoba. Following the match against Castres Fernández will be off contract with Bayonne. Should Bustos Moyano not be selected it will likely mean that Daniel Hourcade wants him for the Rugby Championship.

Bayonne´s fixture against Castres will be at home while both Oyonnax and Perpignan will be playing on the road. Oyonnax has the easier rask of facing Brive and will be aiming for a victory. When the teams met in Oyonnax in round thirteen Oyonnax came out on top with a 26-9 victory with Puma Benjamín Urdapilleta scoring twenty-one points. In 2013 Oyonnax won promotion to the Top 14 in the identical fixture.

Perpignan will face Clermont away and will need to break a five year winning streak or collect bonus points to avoid relegation. Clermont won the reverse fixture 30-23 in Perpignan earlier this season. Bayonne, for its part, was knocked-over 46-16 by Castres.
