CONSUR: Chile name twenty-two man squad to face Brazil

sula 2014
Chilean rugby coaches Elías Santillán and Mark Cross have announced their squad to face Brazil next weekend in São Paulo. The largest city in South America is to be the setting for a round one match in the much changed South American Championship which is to see the teams ranked second to fifth all host two matches and do so in a manner which puts an end to players backing up by playing two or more matches on a short turn-around.

The new format for the South American Championship will see Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay all host two test matches in addition to playing twice on the road. Chile and Uruguay are also both to face Argentina. They earned the right to do so in 2013 by finishing second and third in that years South American Championship. Argentina will play both Los Condores and Los Teros in away test matches.

Chile´s twenty-two squad to travel to Brazil features just four players returning from the same fixture last year. The returning players are all forwards - Cristobál Niesmann, Benjamín Soto, Roberto Ayarzúm and Rolando Pellerano. Missing will be Chile´s Sevens players and those based abroad.

Brazil will host the match at the Arena Barueri in Greater São Paulo on Saturday April 26. It is to be an evening match with kick-off scheduled for 7pm. The venue is the same to that used by Brazil to host Portugal in 2013. On that occassion Brazil was badly defeated in losing 68-0 against the visiting Europeans. The previous test between Brazil and Chile was in the 2013 South American Championship. Doubling as a Rugby World Cup 2015 qualifier Chile won the match 38-22 in Temuco.
