Aviva Premiership: Eric Fry signs for Newcastle Falcons

Aviva Premiership club the Newcastle Falcons have announced the signing of a new player, USA Eagles international prop Eric Fry. The Californian front-rower joins the Northern English club from second division side London Scottish in hat is to be a two year deal which will see him playing for the Falcons in the seasons before and after Rugby World Cup 2015. 

Capable of playing on both sides of the scrum Fry is to join English and Scottish props at the Falcons. He will also be joining two other players from the Western Hemipshere in the form of Pumas centre Gonzalo Tiesi and uncapped Argentine centre Juan Pablo Socino. His arrival in England places him together with Titi Lamositele as the highest profile USA prop. Should Newcastle remain in the Aviva Premiership then they could possibly play against each other. 

The club is struggling this season. It is second from bottom but safe from relegation for the time being. With three rounds remaining the Newcastle Falcons have 19 competition points, seven more than the bottom of the table Worcester Warriors which has 12. Newcastle has matches remaining against Saracens, London Wasps and the Exeter Chiefs while Worcester´s remaining matches are to be against Bath, Saracens and Gloucester.

Capped twenty-three times Fry has established himself in the starting lineup. he made his debut in 2011 against Tonga and featured in that years Rugby World Cup, starting against Australia in Wellington. He joins from London Scottish in the RFU Championship with whom he ahs played eighteen matches for this season. Prior to playing in England Fryn played in the ITM Cup in New Zealand for the Manawatu Turbos.
