Argentina´s team, Pampas XV, will play in the final of the Pacific Cup after the South Americans convincingly defeated Tonga A 47-20 earlier today to remain undefeated. All other sides competing in the competition have recorded losses. Exactly who the South Americans will be facing in the final remains unknown due to unclear tournament rules. The final will nonetheless take place this coming weekend.

After defeating Tonga A the UAR reported that Los Pampas XV would be facing the Queensland Reds A team in the Pacific Cup Final. But with the Fiji Warriors thrashing Junior Japan 99-13 the two teams are now tied on eleven competition points to share first place of pool A. The result means that Fiji has a better scoring record than the Queenslanders but because the Fijians were defeated in their match against the Reds A it is not certain who will face the Argentine side.

There are no such complications in Pool B. The pool was won clearly by the Argentine side who finished on nineteen competition points, ten ahead of Tonga A who finished in second position. The final is to be played on March 23 - this coming Sunday. Kick-off will be at 1am Argentine time.

The star of the match for the South Americans against Tonga A was winger Manuel Montero who scored a first half hat-trick. Tries were also scored by centres Jerónimo da La Fuente and Matías Moroni and forwards Guido Petti Pagadizabal and Javier Ortega Desio. Also scoring points were Patricio Fernández and Santiago González Iglesias. Fernández kicked one conversion and two penalties while González Iglesias landed two conversions.

The performance underlined Argentina´s ability to compete in the competition and to build towards entering Super Rugby in 2016. Many of the players involved are indeed likely to be playing Super Rugby for the Argentine side. Overall there is reason to be optimistic about combining the top Pampas XV players with those based abroad who will return.

The Pacific Cup final will be played at TG Milner Stadium in Sydney.
