CONSUR: Brazil to host Chile and Uruguay in 2014

The governing body of rugby in Brazil, the Confederação Brasileira de Rugby (CBRu) has revealed that the rumours are correct - Brazil will take on Chile and Uruguay at home this year. Chile is to face Brazil in São Paulo while Uruguay will do so in the southern most state of Rio Grande do Sul and do so in Bento Gonçalves.


Although CONSUR is yet to confirm the dates or venues for the 2014 South American Championship it is no secret that the weaker sides are to be given the luxury of playing at home against the higher ranked opposition as much as possible. As such Brazil is to play away against Paraguay and at home against Chile and Uruguay. The dates and locations of these matches are to be Asunción, Bento Gonçalves and São Paulo. The CBRu has started advertising matches on social media, thus ending the secrecy. 

The opening weekend of the competition is to see Paraguay hosting Uruguay and Brazil hosting Chile. Brazil´s match against Chile is to be in São Paulo at a yet to be determined location. Barueri which hosted Brazil v Portugal last November and the recent womens leg of the IRB World Sevens Circuit. Brazil is then to  host Uruguay in Bento Gonçalves. and play Paraguay away. Paraguay, for its part, is to host Uruguay but face Chile in an away fixture while Chile is also to host Argentina and Uruguay will play host to Chile and Argentina.

In an effort to encourage a srong turn aroun the CBRu will not be charging admission costs to the match in Bento Gonçalves. Instead the union is requesting that spectators make a donation of 1KG of a non-perishable product to be used for the purposes of charity. 

CONSUR is waiting for all member unions to accept the proposed dates. Upon ratification the dates and venues will be announced with matches being played from April 27-May 17. Brazil´s matches are to be on April 26, May 3 and May 10.
