English premiership club the Newcastle Falcons announced the signing of Argentine centre Juan Pablo Socino. The uncapped mid-fielder will join the Aviva Premiership club on a two year deal and will see the player from Buenos Aires play at the elite level for the first time after having played for second division clubs in England and France. Socino joins the Newcastle Falcons form the Rotheram Titans.
With the ability to play inside centre or pivot twenty-five year old Socino is a greatly respected player in the RFU Championship. This season he is the leading points scorer in the competition and his move to Newcastle is likely to not only see him used in the starting XV but to be the goalkicker. For Socino the move is about boosting his career and enhancing his chances for international honors. He is yet to be called up for international duty.
The club is presently the home to veteran Puma Gonzalo Tiesi. The outside centre arrived at Newcastle this season as a medical joker and is contracted until the completion of the current season in late May. As such he is expected to play for Argentina in the June internationals against Ireland and Scotland. With Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe set to miss out and Felipe Contepomi retured Tiesi may captain Argentina as he did last June against Georgia. For the time being Tiesi will play no further part with Newcastle after this season.
