Argentine international second-rower Mariano Galarza will play for Gloucester next season. The twenty-seven year old Puma will join the Aviva Premiership club from the Worcester Warriors who are in grave danger of being relegated.
Gloucester is presently involved in a recruitment drive to give itself the opportunity to be more competitive next season. The West Country club is currently well down in the standings in ninth position on twenty-one competition points. The fourth placed Harlequins have thirty-two points maing Gloucester´s task of reaching the Semi Finals increasginly difficult.
Gloucester is to be Galarza´s third European club. Before joining Worcester he previvously played for Leinster on a short-term basis in 2010. He returned from Ireland to Argentina to join the Pampas XV and compete in the Vodacom Cup. It enabled him to obhtain sufficient game time to be included in the Argentine international squad.
Galarza has played eighteen test matches for Argentina. He made his debut in 2010 against Scotland and was a part of the Pumas squad for Rugby World Cup 2011. He missed out on playing in the 2012 Rugby Championship due to injury but returned to feature in nine tests in 2013 including the wins over Georgia and Italy.
Argentina will play a Rugby World Cup 2015 pool match at the home ground of Gloucester Rugby, Kingholm. The match bwill be against the Europe 1 qualifier, likely either Georgia or Romania. The club presently has no Pumas players but is the former home of notable Argentine players Diego Albanese and Rodrigo Roncero.
