Blaine Scully signs fresh Leicester Tigers contract

Photo Leicester Mercury: USA fullback Blaine Scully
USA Eagles winger Blaine Scully arrived at the Leicester Tigers on a trial and after subsequently signing a four month contract the Californian has gone on to sign for the remainder of the season and may remain thereafter.

The 25 year old proved to be up to the standards of both the Aviva Premiership and Heineken Cup in scoring tries in both competitions. He has made six appearances for Leicester in the English competition thus far. His selection has been both due to the club having injury complications with other players but it is also due to his genuine ability.

The club is home to some notable players in Scully´s positions of wing and fullback. Players include former English international Mathew Tait, non-capped but highly rated Englishmen Adam Thompstone and Miles Benjamin, twenty-three time capped Argentine winger Gonzalo Camacho, former All Black Scott Hamilton, uncapped Irish winger Niall Morris and the twenty-nine time capped Fijian Vereniki Goneva.

Scully has been capped fifteen times thus far by the USA. He made his debut in a Churchill Cup fixture against Russia in 2011 and would go on to start in two of the USA´s four matches at the World Cup that year. His most recent appearance was in November when he started in the wins over Georgia and Russia.
