Pro 12 Americas Exports - Round Six Wrap

DTH van der Merwe could be a force against Georgia, Romania and Portugal in November
With the November internationals fast appraoching there are players looking to impress to be selected for their nations. This is true for Six Nations sides just as much as it is for players from the Americas. The weekend saw Argentina, Canada and the USA all represented in the Celtic-Italian League and there were cases of players pushing for selection.

Zebre 16-16 Scarlets
Italia side Zebre very nearly picked up a second win over a Welsh region as the under strength Scarlets played in Parma and escaped with two competition points after snatching a late draw. Playing inside centre for Zebre was Gonzalo Garcia who is from Mendoza but is capped by Italy. Two other Argentina players who represent Italy were on the bench in the form of Luciano Orquera and Matias Aguero.

Ospreys 40-17 Dragons
A big home win for the Ospreys sees the side move ahead of Glasgow. The teams two Canadians started the match with Jeff Hassler playing on the right wing and Tyler Ardon playing in the back-row. meanwhile former Argentine international tighthead prop Francisco Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro again got game time for the Dragons and scored his second try of the season. Some foolish play from the Ospreys handed the Argentine a simple try.

Ulster 39-21 Cardiff
An impressive home victory in Belfast continues the strong season that Ulser is having in both the Rabo Direct Pro 12 and the Heineken Cup. The Northern Irish province has been giving plenty of game time this season to the uncapped Callum Black who is from the USA but remains uncapped. The chances of him playing for the USA appear high given that he was not named in the Irish squad for the November internationals which included six props.

Glasgow 6-13 Munster
The Glasgow Warriors hold on the top spot in the Pro 12 came to an end as Irish province Munster was too strong in a low scoring match. Two players in contention for places in their respective test teams in November were in the Glasgow squad. Canadian DTH van der Merwe played on the wing for the Warriors while Gabriel Ascárate was on the bench. The Puma has previously been used extensively by Daniel Hourcade in the Vodacom Cup.

Edinburgh 20-13 Treviso
Scottish captial side Edinburgh has left the bottom of the table by virtue of a home victory against Italian sde Benetton Treviso on Friday. Edinburgh now moves to within one win of seventh position and is only two points behind Treviso. Tomás Leonardí could be back in the Pumas squad in place of the injured captain Fernández Lobbe. He came on for Edinburgh as a first half replacement. The uncapped Joaquín Domínguez was also on the bench. Treviso had Canadian-Italian Robert Barbieri on its bench in addition to Argentine players Pedro di Santo, Francho Sgaraglini and Ignacio Fernández-Rouyet.

Leinster 16-13 Connacht
A poor Leinster performance was still enough for a win against strugglers Connacht. The western Irish province remains bottom of the table and its status as a feeder team is showing few signs of going away despite efforts being made to the contrary.
