|Lucas González Amorosino en route to scoring against Scotland in 2011|
The twenty-six time capped Argentine international fullback Lucas González Amorosino is returning to play in France after the former Montpellier player had his contract ended early. He has joined Top 14 newcomers Oyonnax.
Montpellier was not happy in losing players to international duty outside of the international windows of June, November and the Six Nations. As such it decided to let go a total of five Argentine players who have moved on to other clubs. Hooker Agustín Creevy left for the Worcester Warriors, prop Nahuel Lobo for the Newcastle Falcons and both Martín Bustos Moyano and Santi Fernández for Bayonne. The club has retained Juan Figallo and Maximilano Bustos but not González Amorosino who played in the Rugby Championship without being attached to a club.
With the Rugby Championship having ended González Amorosino is not back on the market and looking for a club. He had been linked to a return to France to play in the second division for Lyon which is the home of Juan Manuel Leguizamón and Nicolás Vergallo and now the French rugby media has confirmed that he will play as a medical joker for Oyonnax, the home of two other Pumas - Agustín Figuerola and Benjamín Urdapilleta.
A return to the Topn 14 is ideal for González Amorosino to get more game time at international level. He started matches in the Rugby Championship on the wing and at fullback but does not have the confidence of the soon to be former coaching staff. Oyonnax is battling to remain in the Top 14 after winning promotion last season and thus far is delivering results but does not have the same depth as rival clubs. For this reason the arrival of González Amorosino as a medical joker is ideal for both the club and the player himself.
