Americas Rugby Championship Round Three - USA v Uruguay and Canada v Argentina

The fourth edition of the Americas Rugby Championship came to a conclusion last night in the Canadian province of British Columbia with Argentina finishing the tournament with another victory. Los Jaguares´ 23-14 win retained the Argentina A´s status as being undefeated. The Canadians played their best magtch of the tournament but were far from happy as earlier in the day the USA Select XV had defeated 20-8 Uruguay meaning that Canada finished the tournament in third position. In all previous editions of the tournament Canada had always produced the runner-up.

Players from all four competing teams are highly likely to be in consideration for international duty next month with Argentina, Canada and the USA all touring Europe while Uruguay will host Spain on November 16. Before playing in Europe both Canada and the USA will play host to the New Zealand Maori in non-internationals played in the cities of Toronto and Philadelphia. With Argentina in need of better results there were a number of players who could make the Pumas squad this June. Amongst them were Matías Díaz and Patricio Fernández.

The tense match between the USA and Uruguay sets up an interesting few months preperation for the March 2014 matches which will see the teams play each other home and away with the winner qualifying for Rugby World Cup 2015 in Pool B. The prize is to be matches against South Africa, Samoa, Scotland and Japan (Asia 1). The runner-up will still have one final chance of qualification through repercharge but it it a far from attractice option due to it seeing the qualifier play in Pool A against Australia, England, Wales and Fiji (Oceania 1) and face both European sides at their home grounds.

  1. Plenty of positives for ARG and the USA. Argentina could have taken along a much better set of loose forwards; Baez,De La Vega, etc.
But the guys who went along still stood up. This certainly was not ARG A, more like C.
USA played well in each game I think although they butchered chances in their first game. A good foot forward for them.

Paul , what do you think of Rojas? I think he has good hands, smart feet and he reads the game well. He is rather chi-chai( small), but don't you think he deserves a chance?

The fitness job done at "athletes performance", on Diaz is real good. He's much more mobile now than when he was at the RWC junior's!
