|Ormaechea played scrumhalf in the|
2013 South American Championship
A win-win situation for French rugby club Mont de Marsan and for Uruguay has see this seasons bottom placed French Top 14 club sign twenty-two year old Los Teros scrumhalf Agustín Ormaechea. His move to France will be a massive boost to his career which has seen him represent Uruguay at both test level and in Rugby Sevens. He will arguably become second to Rodrigo Capó Ortega who is set to start for Castres in a Top 14 Semi Final in ten days time. Capó Ortega has largely been flying to Uruguayan flag by himself in France in recent years while other Uruguayan players have instead been based in Italy.
For Uruguay Ormeachea´s move means the country´s chances of qualifying for Rugby World Cup 2015 can be considered to be slightly better as the exposure he will recieve by training and playing in a professional environment cannot be matched in Montevideo. With Uruguay likely to be Americas 3 and face face a qualifying series of matches against other regional runners-up, the experience Ormaechea will offer after playing for Mont de Marsan is ideal for Los Teros.
The deal is for the 2013-2014 saeason which will be a very tought one for Mont de Marsan as the French Pro d2 continues to produce unpredictable results. Lyon´s expected return to the Top 14 failed to occur Oyonnax, while a small town team from close to the Swiss border, won direct promotion as the Pro d2 Champion. Former Top 14 sides Pau and Brive will play in the Pro d2 final in Bordeaux with one winning promotion to join Oyonnax in the Top 14 next season replacing Mont de Marsan and Agen.
