Nicolás Vergallo gets 76 minutes in first Super Rugby start

Brumbies 28-28 Southern Kings
There has been much speculation that the Southern Kings season in Super Rugby will be a one-off. The Port Elizabeth based franchise replaced the Johannesburg based Lions this season which divided opinions both within South Africa and abroad. The Lions have been securing non-Super Rugby fixtures and were set to tour North America shortly only to have called off the tour. With the your no longer taking place serious questions need to be asked about the Lions organization and it is questionable whether or not the Lions ought to return next season or not.

Not a lot was expected of the Lions replacement, the Southern Kings, but the team has overall played above par in its first six rounds. The draw was á significant achivement for the South African side. It came as a result of tries with the visitors outscoring the Brumbies by four tries to two. Organizing the play at scrumhalf was Argentina´s Nicolás Vergallo who earned his first start of the season after having previously been on the bench. The former Toulouse scrumhalf would appear to be on target for a return to the Pumas test team after having lost out on the starting and bench places in late 2012.  The Kings now have one more match to play before returning home from Oceania to play the remainder of its matches in South Africa this season. Next weekends match looks to be winnable with the Kings facing the Melbourne Rebels in Melbourne.

The 28 all draw with the leader of the Australia conference, the Brumbies came as a surprize and it sent out a warning to South African rivals. The bottom placed South African franchise will play the Lions in a promotion-relegation match to determine the fifth South African team for the 2014 season. Vergallo would appear likely to continue starting for the Kings.
