Vodacom Cup - Round Two Wrap

Tomás Cubelli
Round two of the Vodacom Cup was a good one for Argentina´s Los Pampas XV as the only non-South African team in the competition defeated the SWD Eagles to move into third place of the Southern Section. The 22-17 victory featured three tries to two with winger Manuel Montero scoring and scrumhalf and captain Tomás Cubelli also crossing. The teams´ other try was a penalty try scored in the first half. The two tries conceeded by the Argentine side were both from interceptions. Ahead of Los Pampas XV are the Super Rugby feeder teams for the Sharks and Southern Kings. The Sharks XV leads the pool on six points while Eastern Provicne is one point behind. Los Pampas XV could take the lead next round should it win and other results go its way.

The Northern Section produced some very interesting results this past weekend. None of the feeder teams to the Super Rugby franchises were impressive. The Blue Bulls lost at home against the Pumas  while the Golden Lions lost against Valke. The Lions are not playing Super Rugby this year due to problems within South Africa. With the country only having five franchises there is not enough places for everybody which meant that the Lions missed out this season due to the Johannesburg based side being the worst performer in the 2012 season. Entering in place of the Lions was the Southern Kings, a team that has so far looked to be a better team than the Lions.
