Salta pushing hard to host England in June

The Estadio Padré Ernesto Martearena in Salta
The UAR is yet to confirm the venues for Los Pumas´ three home tests in June. Argentina will recieve England for two tests and then host Georgia for the first time ever. While the locations of the three tests remain unconfirmed it has been widely speculated that they will be played in three of Mar del Plata, Salta, Santa Fé and Tucumán. Of the four Tucumán is the only to have hosted test rugby in 2012. Santa Fé last hosted test rugby in 2007 with Argentina defeating Ireland but did host Argentina v Stade Français before the 2012 Rugby Championship. Mar del Plata hosted Scotland in 2010 and Salta hosted England in 2009.

The clash between Argentina and England in 2009 was a huge success in attracting the imagination of the locals. With England returning this year it would appear to be a good choice for one of the two tests. The other could potentially go to any of the three others but Tucumán would appear to be the weakest option due to the stadium being in need of renovations. Should Tucumán host a test it would likely be best suited to hosting Georgia, Argentina´s Pool opponents in 2007 and 2011 and confirmed opponents again for Rugby World Cup 2015.

The governor of Salta, Juan Manuel Urtubey has come out strongly by confessing his desire to have Salta host Argentina v England in June 2013. He is targetting either June 08 or June 15 and not June 22, the date in which Georgia will play a test in Argentina. The venue would be the same as that from 2009, the Estadio Padré Ernesto Martearena.

Salta is the home of Argentina´s world class tighthead prop, Juan Figallo. But should the city host England then Figallo would not feature due to his certain involvement in The Rugby Championship. He is currently on the sideleins, injured and will not lpay again for Montpellier this season.
