Top 14 - Round 19 Wrap

Castres 25-20 Toulon
The round kicked-off on Friday evening wth Castres hosting Toulon. Both sides were without players who were on international duty in the Six Nations. Toulon still had plenty of players to field a star-studded team but was outplayed by the home side. Uruguayan forwad Rodrigo Capó Ortega played in the secondrow for Castres. Pumas captain Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe missed out after injuryin himself last weekend against Montpellier. He is expected to be out for a further five weeks.

Agen 9-3 Mont de Marsan
In rugby every point counts and Agen showed just why this is the case as it completed a very low scoring victory over bottom of the table Mont de Marsan. The result sees Agen have some breathing space and pile the pressure on Bordeaux-Begles. Esteban Lozada played in the secondrow for the home side.

Biarritz 11-23 Racing Métro
An important away victory was sufficient for Racing Métro to continue its rise up the standings and it now sites in the top six. The clubs impressive playing roster should see the club go on to make the play-off´s.Of racing Métro´s two tries one was scored by Pumas secondrower Manuel Carizza. It was all the more significant due to it being against his former club which refused to offer him a new contract unless he said no to playing in The Rugby Championship. Three others Pumas from the 2012 Rugby Championship started the match with Juan Martín Hernández playing fullback and Juan Pablo Orlandi coming off the bench for the visitors. The home side featured Marcelo Bosch at inside centre and USA winger Taku Ngwenya also started.

Grenoble 10-17 Clermont
A local derby of sorts was closer than it would likely had been if Clermont Auvergne had been able to field all its first choice players. The team was without a host of players on international duty while Grenoble had full access to its players. Clermont was nonetheless too strong and even got the win with a number of players who were not on test duty being rested. Argentina´s Joaquín Tuculet was on the bench for Grenoble.

Montpellier 15-13 Bordeaux
A key match for both sides as Montpellier needed to recover from a hammering against Toulon last weekend and Bordeaux-Begles need every point to avoid relegation. Bordeaux looked set for victory when Pumas flyhalf Nicolás Sánchez converted the only try of the match to put the visitors in front with twelve mintues remaining. Montpellier, though fought back to claim a late win with a penalty. Sánchez formed an Argentine 1-12 combination with former Pumas winger Rafael Carballo starting at inside centre. He also played against a Puma as Santi Fernández was Montpellier´s flyhalf. Fernández had three Pumas in the Montpellier match day 23, two of whom started. Agustín Creevy and Maximilano Bustos both started in the frontrow while Martín Bustos Moyano was on the bench covering wing and fullback. There was no place for Lucas González Amorosino or Juan Figallo. In the case of Figallo his season is over after he injured his clavical in training last week. He could miss the start of The Rugby Championship.

Toulouse 42-6 Bayonne
Despite missing countless players to international duty Toulouse cleaned house in handing Bayonne an  embarrasing loss. The six tries to zero win underlines the controversy over the naming of Phillipe Saint-André as the French coach and his non-selection of a number of playes who appear to be superior to those in the French test team. Two examples are winger Maxime Medard and centre Yann David who both featured in the win over Bayonne. Pumas vice captain Patricio Albacete played in the secondrow for Toulouse.

Perpignan 32-16 SF Paris
A reat win for Perpignan sees the club move to within one victory of the top six. It is now tied with Grenoble despite having started the season poorly and having been close to be threatened with relegation. Stade Français continues to be a shadow of its former self and faces an uphill battle to return to the play-off´s zone. None of the clubs Pumas featured in the match but Martín Rodríguez Gurruchaga is now fit again. USA Eagles forwars Scott LaValla was on the bench.
