Agustín Creevy signs for Worcester Warriors

The recruitment drive of English club the Worcester Warriors continues to land impressive signatures as the club looks to have a superior team for the 2013-2014 season. Two weeks after signing Leonardo Senatore the club has now also confirmed the arrival of a second Pumas forward. The club confirmed this morning that it had completed the signing of 27 year old Argentine hooker Agustín Creevy. He will join the club from Montpellier in France. he joiend Montpellier after Rugby World Cup 2011 and quickly established himself as the clubs leading hooker. He had also convinced Santiago Phelan that he was the right player to replace the retired Mario Ledesma for Los Pumas but after fracturing a rib in a warm-up match for The Rugby Championship he was replaced by Eusebio Guiñazú for the entire 2012 international season. Guiñazú joined Bath for the current season but is, in fact, yet to play for the club due to fracturing a rib in his first training session with the club.

Creevy joins Worcester not only after two years with Montpellier but after also previously playing for Biarritz as a backrower and for Clermont Auvergne as a medical joker. His move to England will see him play in the Aviva Premiership. He took the decision to join Senatore at Worcester despite having numerous other options from clubs in both France and England. It will be his first time playing club rugby in England but not his first time playing at the home of the Worcester Warriors, Sixways. Creevy played hooker for Argentina against Worcester in a warm-up match for Rugby World Cup 2011. Creevy told the club that he had opted to join Worcester following a conversation with coach Richard Hill.

Creevy is a future Pumas captain in the making. He has captained Argentina´s reserve side, Los Jaguares and also led Los Pampas XV to Vodacom Cup glory in 2011. Firstly though, Creevy needs to establish himself as Argentina´s leading hooker as despite having played twenty-two tests for Argentina one one of them saw him starting. However given his form for Montpellier this season it is highly likely that he will indeed be starting for Argentina in The Rugby Championship at hooker and he could possibly be joined by Juan Figallo and Maximilano Bustos in an all Montpellier frontrow.

  1. I'm very surprised that Creevy couldn't get a better team than Worcester.

Worcester also signed Mieres too. But they lose most of they've lost all their top English homegrown talent such as Tom Wood, Kitchener, Kvesic, Miles Benjamin, Matt Mullan.

  2. He had a number of other offers but Worcester was the best, in his opinion. The chance of joining Senatore and Mieres is surely a huge plus. Montpellier is cleaning house with Fernández and González Amorosino likely to join rival clubs.

    1. Strange that they are deciding to get rid of the Argentines. When they gave Amorosino and Creevy new contracts at the end of last season.

So if they didn't want to lose players to the Rugby Championship, then why didn't they release Amorosino last season instead of offering new contract?

The Argentines at Racing aren't under threat of their contract are they. I'm looking forward to seeing Imhoff playing next season with Sexton running hopefully a more cohesive backline and him getting more opportunities than he currently gets.
