2012 saw Argentina´s best natural centre, Gonzalo Tiesi completing a solid come back after he was very unlucky with injuries in 2011 and the first half of 2012. Tiesi was to be Argentina´s starting outside centre at Rugby World Cup 2011 and started the tournament in the position against England but his campaign ended swiftly as he was badly injured and required knee reconstruction. He recovered to make an appearance for his then professional club, Stade Français but had to undergo further surgery. Tiesi was replaced by Marcelo Bosch who has performed well for Argentina in his place but who is not a natural outside centre. Bosch has also played a lot in the position for Biarritz as he has at fullback, flyhalf and inside centre but his genuine talent would appear to be far more suited to playing at first (10) or second reciever (12).
Tiesi missed out on playing for his country in June 2012 and in The Rugby Championship but was being monitored by coaches and the UAR invested in his recuperation. He returned for national honors in November, starting the first match of the tour against Wales. His performance was very good for a player whose only rugby all season had been for SIC in Buenos Aires as he defended very well against the much larger Welsh centres and wingers. Argentina can claim to have options for 13 now with Tiesi, Bosch and winger Horacio Agulla all providing reliable options. Tiesi will likely be firmly penciled in to start The 2013 Rugby Championship in the 13 shirt with Bosch quite possibly to be the starting 12.
It has also been suggested on social media that Tiesi will be returning to England. He has not confirmed this but has said he has two options that he is currently considering. This will see him return to play professional rugby in Europe where he played previously for London Irish from 2005-2008, the Harlequins from 2008-2010 and Stade Français from 2010-2012. Tiesi is quiet about who the clubs are that he is currently in talks with but has said that it will be made known in the coming weeks. He has also said that he will not play for SIC in 2013 while his return to Europe should mean he will miss out on playing for Argentina against England and Georgia in June.
