The solid form of Argentina´s Benjamin Urdapilleta in the Pro d2 continued on Saturday as the flyhalf scored two tries for Oyonnax in its home match against Pau. Urdapilleta entered the game having scored forty-three points in Oyonnax´s previous two Pro d2 championship matches. He did not kick goals against Pau this past weekend however instead scrumhalf Julien Audy did the kicking. The match was one for followers of South American rugby as Chilean international secondrower Sergio Valdes started for Pau. Urdapilleta´s performance continues to push his case for inclusion in Argentina´s squad for the home tests in June 2013. The UAR is yet to announce the dates, venues and teams but it has been widely speculated that Argentina will host England for two tests after hosting Georgia for one. Urdapilleta could well be in line for the flyhalf birth and could even by partnered at 12 by Juan Pablo Socino who landed a penalty in Dax´s 19-16 win over Auch also on Saturday.
Oyonnax lead the Pro d2 and look to be a safe bet to win promotion to the Top 14. The club is leading the competition with 61 points with the second placed La Rochelle well behind on 46 points. Should Oyonnax continue its fine performances it would finish in first place and win automatic promotion to the Top 14. The teams who finish from 2nd-5th will contest the Semi Finals and Final with the winner also winning promotion. Currently the teams in serious contention are La Rochelle, Aurillac, Lyon, Tarbes, Brive and Pau. Lyon played on Sunday with Juan Manuel Leguizmaón starting in the backrow. On the opposition team was another Argentine back who could feature in June - Gabriel Ascarate who played out of position at fullback for Carcassonne.
