Argentina may host Super Rugby Champions

Dave Rennie
The headcoach of the current Super Rugby Champions, Dave Rennie has confirmed that his team, The Chiefs could be visiting Argentina in 2013 to play a friendly match against Los Pumas. The match would serve as preperation for The Rugby Championship with the New Zealand Super Rugby franchise visiting Argentina in a similar way to that of French Top 14 club Stade Français who played two matches in Argentina in 2012. Rennie was recently in Argentina together with The Chiefs assistant coach and former All Blacks Headcoach, Wayne Smith. The pair were involved in a series of training sessions. While in the country a decision was made for a match to be played in June while Super Rugby is not being played due to the competition taking a break for all international players to be released for the June Internationals.

Should the match go ahead then Argentina would be fielding a team without its professional players based in Europe. In other words it would be a chance of seeing Los Pampas XV face a Super Rugby side. Los Pampas XV are, of course, the blueprint for a future Argentine Super Rugby team with Agustín Pichot involved in seeing Los Pampas XV enter Super Rugby in the coming years. The 2013 Super Rugby Season will feature current Pumas players Nicolás Vergallo and Tomás Leonardí with the pair to play for South Africa´s new side the Southern Kings.
