Canada push Maori All Blacks at Oxford University

Canada has completed its three match tour of the United Kingdom with a 32-19 loss against the All Black Maori in a non-international at Oxford University. The match was played in very cold conditions and featured three tries with the boot of Willie Ripia having the greatest impact on the match as he scored 20 points. There were three tries scored with the winners scoring two of them. Canada´s try was the final try of the match with replacement hooker Ray Barkwell scoring from a scrum following a controversial decision from the referee after what appeared to have been a try to winger Taylor Paris was not given and instead Canada had a 5 metre put in. The New Zealanders were leading the match 19-9 at the interval.

Canada will next be involved in international rugby in June 2013 with Ireland visiting and a second yet to be confirmed opponent. Canada will also face the United States of America in a home and away series in July with the winner on aggregate to qualify for Rugby World Cup 2015 as Americas 1 and the loser to face the winner of Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. The match against the Maori All Blacks was not altogether popular and there were plenty of people speaking out against the match on social networks. It was a non-international and against a team who will not play at Rugby World Cup 2015. Canada could have instead played against Japan who also played a non-international, against a Basque XV. Such a match could have been a good game to be played in a Canadian city such as St. John´s.
