With the inclusion of Los Pumas in The Rugby Championship relations between Argentine and New Zealand rugby are improving greatly. More opportunities are going to become avaliable in the future for players to be exposed to New Zealand rugby. But some, such as Argentine under 19 player, Santi Fauda, have already played in New Zealand. Fauda spent ten months at Christchurch Boy´s High School and returned to Argentina to become a South American Under 19 Champion.
In the build up to last weekends Argentina v New Zealand match at La Plata Fauda was the subject of a priem time New Zealand television show, Close Up. He was featured as an example of the future of Pumas rugby and also to provide New Zealand viewers with a look at someone who has experience playing in New Zealand. The segment also featured a rugby fan, named Marcos from Venezuela who keenly attended the New Zealand training sessions in Buenos Aires and got to meet some All Blacks.
The piece is a reminder of the strength of an Argentine bid to host Rugby World Cup 2023. There is tremendous progress already being made and with a World Cup in Argentina the benefits would be beyond continental and not restricted to Argentina.
