Zimbio: Jebb Sinclair holds the Currie Cup

Argentina hosting RWC 2023 is a part of the globalization of rugby - tranforming the sport into a genuine global game. It is about spreading the sport into new places to increase the market value of the sport and to also have Rugby World Cup´s improve. The desire of all is for Rugby World Cup´s to have more teams capable of winning and that means actively encouraging innovation. The Americas will be the final region for rugby when Japan hosts Rugby World Cup 2019. Argentina will also, likely still be the only Semi Finalist in the tournament´s history to never have hosted a tournament.

While Argentina is the leading rugby nation in the Americas but the region is far from being restricted to having one notable nation. Canada and the United States of America made valuable contributions to the success of Rugby World Cup 2011 and Uruguay has also left its mark on World Cup´s. This past weekend saw Brazil host Paraguay and attract its largest ever crowd as more than 6,000 were in the stadium for the match. On the same day South African rugby had its biggest match of the year - the Currie Cup Final. The final was contested between two powerhouse sides - Western Province and the Natal Sharks. While European professional competitions have a high number of imported players it is not the same everywhere. In South African rugby the number of imported players is low. Nevertheless history was made this weekend as a Canadian is now a South African Champion after Jebb Sinclair was a part of the winning Western Province team that defeated the Natal Sharks in the 2012 Currie Cup Final on Saturday.

Sinclair joined Western Province on lone from Aviva Premiership side London Irish and he also featured for the province´s Super Rugby team, the Stormers. He is now due back in England but firstly will be playing for Canada in its three match tour of Wales and England which starts with an exciting match against Samoa.
