Strong Jaguares side to tour Canada

Agustín Creevy lifts the trophy
Argentina´s development team, Los Jaguares will play against similar teams from Canada, Uruguay and the USA next month in Canada in the 2012 Americas Rugby Championship. Coach Daniel Hourcade has named a combination of players from Los Pampas XV and other Argentine based players. The squad includes backrower Alejandro Campos who played at Rugby World Cup 2011. His place in the starting lineup is far from confirmed, however due to the other players in the position. He is joined by other experienced players including prop Juan Gómez but overall the squad is young and packed with players who could go on to make Los Pumas in the lead up to Rugby World Cup 2015.

Some of the most noticable players include Tomás Cubelli, Tomás De La Vega Santiago González Iglesias, Manuel Montero and Bruno Postiglioni. All have been in the Pumas frame this year. Cubelli is likely to overtake the French based pair of Agustín Figuerola and Nicolás Vergallo sooner rather than latter to compete with Martín Landajo to be Argentina´s starting scrumhalf. Cubelli could be the teams captain for the Americas Rugby Championship after he captained Los Jaguares earlier in 2012. Tomás De La Vega was a standout performer against France this year and has surprizingly not been used in The Rugby Championship. Both he and Cubelli are certain to be in the squad to tour Europe this November. González Iglesias is the leading Argentine based flyhalf but has difficult competition from the likes of Juan Martín Hernández, Marcelo Bosch, Santi Fernández and Ignacio Mieres. Both Manuel Montero and Bruno Postiglioni have international futures ahead of themselves and can confirm their places in the November tour with solid performances in Canada.

Curious by his absence is Juan Pablo Socino. The 24 year old flyhalf is likely to be a part of the Los Pampas XV squad for the 2013 Vodacom Cup. He has not been selected for the Americas Rugby Championship but will be playing abroad after having signed a contract to play in France. He will be a medical joker for Pro d2 side Dax to provide cover for Guillaume Devade who is injured. His contract is short term and he is likely to return to Argentina to prepare for the Vodacom Cup.
