New Nike Argentine Shirt Revealed

This afternoon in Buenos Aires marked the start of a new era of Argentine rugby as the UAR revealed the new shirt to be worn by Los Pumas in the June internationals vs Italy and France. The new shirt, shown above, is significantly different to that used by the previous supplier, Adidas as there are no longer sky-blue and white stripes. Rather, than trying to replicate Adidas, the new uniform takes a different approach in attempting to be closer to the Argentine flag with a strong body of white with sky-blue edges. This enables it to be entirely different to the previous Pumas shirt as well as the shirt used by the Argentine soccer team.

Nike is also to supply rugby uniforms for Argentine teams below the senior level. Los Pampas XV used a Nike supplied shirt in the Vodacom Cup, the Pumas Sevens team was also supplied by Niker in the 2012 legs of the World Sevens Circuit while Los Jaguares will wear Nike shirts in the upcoming IRB Nations Cup in Romania as will Los Pumitas in the IRB Junior World Championship in South Africa. The new shirt also sees the long term sponsorship of Visa continue, with the credit card company having sponsored Argentine rugby since 1996.

  1. I hope Nike hasn't taken it upon itself to redesign the Puma shirt.

The classic pumas jersey with the stripes can't be messed. They are a big part of the reason why the pumas are now in the rugby championship, the stripes are our history.

  3. unlike in a production economy....where competition was driven by production efficiency and price....it is now determined by manufactured difference .... and not so much quality ....for example....but mostly STYLE....

never ceases to amaze me how ignorant and naive people are about the world that they interact with on a daily basis and who really governs the choices they make....

for example....differentiation rather than standardization characterizes products.... which of course includes the hallowed team jersey colors of our beloved & indomitable Pumas....Marketing creativity has replaced production efficiency as the determining factor of success for a corporation such as "nike"....so much so that the actual cost of investing goods with intangible qualities that contribute absolutely nothing to use exceeds the cost of actually marketing the product....

marketers acting for producers but living in the minds of consumers are engaged in an endless process of transforming....as well as responding to consumers desires....the so called 'creatives'....who feed us the ideas of 'self creation' and 'life style'.

  4. apart from the reversal of the relationship between production and consumption....the other social change since the 80's has been the spread of free market ideology and the concomitant penetration of market values into areas of previously hallowed dimensions of social and cultural life....from which they were previously banned....URBA....for example....

these values are continued expansion at the expense of everything & ranging from the overall ecology of the planet to your beloved Puma jersey....for example .... materialism .... individualism....competition and monetary value....(which by the way paradox. equalizes all values by giving them a common metric and destroying all values that do not comform to the economic)....in short....the marketing industry has caught on to the innate aspiration of most human beings to fulfill their individual humanity....

  5. but they don't want that for you....they are the proverbial matrix and they would much rather keep selling you out so they can put more $$ and quarterly statements into their bank accounts....so they create restless dissatisfaction....chronic stress....lives of 'quiet desperation'....as thoreau once noted....feelings that give rise to a rash of psychological disorders including anxiety.... depression.... substance abuse....FEELINGS OF iNADEQUACY....and in order to remedy it....you will buy whatever product they come up with next....

Who am I ??? Who do I want to be ??? thats what consumers are being trained to ask all the time....and meaning and identity are some if not the most profound questions that a human being can ask....they are expressed in the design of a jersey for example....

The marketing industry demands this kind of Darth Vader creativity....because they need your creeping sense of disappointment over and over and over again....consumption requires continual invention of new ways for you to buy a new temporary identity fix....which is a fundamental human need.

  6. now...all this to tell you there is no need to worry about the stripes on our always immaculate and beautiful jersey of our childhood and adult imagination....

nike surely knows better than you how much of your emotion is invested in this jersey....love....

but they want to sell many more of them now that they have the contract and to unleash the consumer....they create tension....anxiety....like drawing up a bow....on purpose....so they are getting ready to pull the trigger....and that trigger will be pulled not with an experimental team playing before italy and france....but with the real deal against new zealand....australia....& south africa....with the all stars....

THEY will be wearing the striped jerseys....and you have been put on a diet of withdrawal....and not only are you more likely to spring 85 $ for a new Puma Jersey with its classic stripes....but a younger demographic will probably think this new jersey looks cool....and many will also buy into this novelty jersey too....

all the same to them.... the task of marketing is to uncover and use these complex feelings that are associated with this 'particular product'....with a specific consumer in mind....so they can con you into buying into their greed....nice world we live in.
