Martín Rodríguez Gurruchaga signs new two year deal with Stade Français

Argentina´ 27 year old World Cup fullback, Martín Rodríguez Gurruchaga has extended his stay in Paris. He has signed a new two year deal with Stade Français, his second after arriving two years ago at the club.  Rodríguez Gurruchaga was one of 24 players selected for The Rugby Championship and is currently therefore not a part of the Pumas side playing home tests against Italy and France. He has won 15 test caps sicne making his international debut in November 2009 vs England. His debut came in the inside centre position as Argentina had a crisis with Juan Martín Hernández, Felipe Contepomi and Marcelo Bosch all out of action with injury. He took his chance to have a solid three matches vs England, Wales and Scotland and then went on to have a good debut season for Los Pampas XV and sign for Stade Français for whom he started playing for in August 2010.

After returning to France from World Cup duty, Rodríguez Gurruchaga played in all 19 of Stade Français´ Top 14 matches, starting 17 matches and coming off the bench twice in the number 21 shirt. He scored two tries in the past season for the club. Such is the diversity that Rodríguez Gurruchaga offers that he is a solid player in either the fullback or inside centre position. This year it is most likely that he will be utilized by Santiago Phelan as a centre given the form of Lucas González Amorosino for Montpelllier and that Felipe Contepomi will not play in The Rugby Championship.

  1. Hi Paul...For me, Rodríguez Gurruchaga is only a "good player", not a "superb" player...Three years ago, I saw a best future for him. Now, I doubt it. Sincerelly yours
