Joaquín Tuculet signs for Grenoble

Tuculet for Los Pampas XV

After a positive debut season of professional rugby, 22 year old Argentine outside back, Joaquín Tuculet has taken up a new contract which will see him play his rugby in France rather than England. The successful graduate of Los Pampas XV saw signed by the Sale Sharks for the 2011-2012 season and played in twelve Aviva Premiership matches scoring a try vs the competitions´winners, the Harlequins in October. But rather than stay in England and continue with the Sharks, Tuculet hs taken up an offer to play his rugby in France for the Pro d2 Champions, Grenoble who will play in next seasons Top 14.

The new contract coincides with his selection for Los Pumas for the upcoming tests vs Italy and France with Tuculet in line for a starting position at fullback as Santiago Phelan has opted to rest virtually all of Argentina´ frontline players to give them rest time ahead of The Rugby Championship and the subsequent 2012-2013 European season. There have been clubs that have expressed their concerns and anger of Argentina´ involvement in The Rugby Championship and have said they will not be signing Pumas players for this reason. Leicester´s release of Horacio Agulla being the strongest indication of the risks involved for professional players. Tuculet´s move to Grenoble, however, carries no such problems as he told Argentine site scrum that the club is happy to release him for any and all international duties with Los Pumas.

Tuculet´ move to France is great news for both him and for Los Pumas as Argentina´s rebuilding looms as being much easier than in other Post-World Cup years. Grenoble have sigend him for the position of fullback, not wing. It is Tuculet´ prefered position and Sale used him as a winger. Argentina also have significant options right now at wing with Phelan having five in form wingers who have all had outstanding seasons in Europe. None of the five players (Agulla, Bustos Moyano, Camacho, González Amorosino and Imhoff) were named in the squad for the June internationals which is certain to see Tuculet recieve game time in the 15 shirt despite being uncapped. Tuculet has never played for Los Pumas but has played in many matches for Los Jagures and, Los Pampas XV and has played for Argentina at both the under 20 and under 18 levels.
